“The 4th World War…

… started on February 27th 1989 in Caracas."

A short clip here from the longer, and excellent, Venezuela Bolivariana. This clip focuses on the Caracazo riots of 1989 (as well as the 1992 coup) , an event whose global repercussions have yet to be recognized. The commentary by the reporter around minute 6 is classic. The death count from the Caracazo is unknown: estimates put it in the thousands, whereas the official count is around 300. If you go to the barrio 23 de enero, you can still see the bulletholes sprayed across the apartment blocks.
